What is content management

Content management is a subclass of information management that deals with the lifecycle management of digital information. This means creating, publishing, translating, archiving and deleting of digital information.

Typically complex software programs called content management systems are used for this task that support many steps in the lifecycle of an application. Typical groups of content management systems are

  • Enterprise Content Management Systems
Some experts see software like weblog software or wikis as lightweight content management systems.
